Donor Conceived in Color (DC.IC) is a global community-building project by and for Donor-Conceived People (DCP) who are racially marginalized.* It acts as a virtual meeting ground where we can…

distill our community’s knowledge, passion, and skill into more power…

to self-determine our lives, make change for next generations, and be heard – together.

* In other words, DC.IC builds community for people who are

  1. Donor-Conceived People (conceived with donor sperm, eggs, or embryo, “DCP”) AND
  2. BIPOC or multiracial (have an identity, family, OR biological parent/donor whose heritage isn’t 100% European.)

To participate, you don’t need to: 1) live in the US; 2) be in touch with donor(s)/relatives; 3) feel connected to heritage or confident about identity; 4) look non-white; or 5) be BIPOC/multiracial “enough” (we don’t support blood quantum.)

DC.IC was developed from fall 2024-winter 2025 by community member Max Tang. My (Max’s) overarching goal is to ask questions our community can answer together through years of ongoing conversation and action:

What are our strengths and struggles? What do we need? How might we get there?

I started out with 5 goals, and I hope for them to evolve based on input of our emerging community. This project focuses on change in the US, but we welcome English-speaking DCP globally. Read about Guiding Values here.

Hi! I’m Max Tang, a biracial DCP, licensed social worker, and therapist from the US.

Since 2021, I’ve built community with fellow BIPOC/multiracial, LGBTQ+, and disabled DCP through virtual peer support groups. Naturally, this work also led to advocacy like:

  • virtually training therapists, genetic counselors, medical staff, and fertility clinic/bank leadership about the experiences & needs of DCP
  • co-presenting at a conference on DCP-centered principles for Intended Parents considering cross-racial donors (JFICC)
  • writing about emerging community patterns in AllPaths Family Building Magazine

DC.IC is looking for collaborators! Do you want to help guide this project or create resources?

Like many DCP, I’m biracial because of the donor-recipient race gap. My Chinese American family conceived me with eggs from a white, (formerly!) anonymous donor. I learned I was biracial and donor-conceived before middle school.
