Hi! I’m Max Tang, a biracial DCP, licensed social worker, and therapist from the US.

Since 2021, I’ve built community with fellow BIPOC/multiracial, LGBTQ+, and disabled DCP through virtual peer support groups. Naturally, this work also led to advocacy like:

  • virtually training therapists, genetic counselors, medical staff, and fertility clinic/bank leadership about the experiences & needs of DCP
  • co-presenting at a conference on DCP-centered principles for Intended Parents considering cross-racial donors (JFICC)
  • writing about emerging community patterns in AllPaths Family Building Magazine

My Chinese American family raised me to be proud of our culture and immigration story. However, like many DCP, I’m biracial because of the donor-recipient race gap. They conceived me with eggs from a white, (formerly!) anonymous donor. I learned I was biracial and donor-conceived before middle school.

Here are three ways to help:

  1. Join a Steering Committee of community members to help guide the project.
    • You might help organize town halls, social calls, and other community events
    • survey community needs, or redefine goals.
  2. Suggest additions to our Resource Directory or co-create printable guides.
    • We know we’re missing important perspectives. Help us share more stories and create more resources!
  3. Join the Storytellers’ Network for BIPOC and multiracial DCP.
    • Professionals and organizations will make referral requests to DC.IC for DCP contributors to their project or event. DC.IC will screen and share them with you so you can make informed choices.

These are just some options. We welcome suggestions about your own way to contribute!

To participate, you don’t need to: 1) live in the US; 2) be in touch with donor(s)/relatives; 3) feel connected to heritage or confident about identity; 4) look non-white; or 5) be BIPOC/multiracial “enough” (we don’t support blood quantum.)

At the same time, in our decision-making, DC.IC aims to prioritize voices with the least privilege – think colorism, impoverishment, disability, and more. Read about our Guiding Values here.
